For my very first chili rating I sampled a fine bowl of chili from the chili capitol of the world, Terlingua, TX. The Starlight Theatre has a great Texas atmosphere. Don't miss it if you are ever in Terlingua.
Served without beans (which I'm leaning more towards after years of insisting on beans) the chili was a brownish red color with a nice chewy beef texture that you could really sink your teeth into. It had a great spicy flavor that balanced nicely with the acidic tang that was present. Served with cheddar cheese and a big basket of tortilla chips (the way it should be). Overall this reminded me of the most of my own chili recipe. Good Stuff! Sorry, I wasn't thinking and didn't think to take any pictures. D'OH!
Spice (1-10): 6
Not too spicy but spicy enough to let the flavor of the beef and other seasonings come through. Great balancing act.
Presentation (1-5): 3
Simply served in an average bowl.
Meat: (1-5): 4
Nice chewy beef texture and flavor
Aroma (1-10): 6
Smelled good like a bowl of red should.
Overall (1-20): 16
This was a very good bowl that reminded me of my own chili recipe.

Whats up Dude!
ReplyDeleteWhile camping in the rain this weekend we decided to seek shelter in the Shenandoah National Park Big Meadows Lodge. After warming my body with a Star Hill Pale Ale I thought I would give a bowl of their chili a try. Normally I don't expect much from a kitchen owned and operated by the Federal Government... but this chili was the jam. I was so shocked at how good it was I almost forgot about the cold and rainy weather I had to return to. When you come up here we gotta head out there for a bowl!
